Star Wars Review

 This past December, the Skywalker Saga came to an end. The Rise of Skywalker is concentrated on the reappearance of Emperor Palpatine, supposedly killed in Return of the Jedi (Episode Six). The Resistance, led by General Leia (Carrie Fisher, with the assistance of CGI), tirelessly pursues Palpatine through the galaxy. Scary Movie Reviews

Hereditary: Scary scale 10/10
    The expertly crafted film follows the Graham family as a daunting bloodline with cult-like capabilities unravels, dragging husband and wife Steve and Annie and their children Peter and Charlie along with it. Kicking it off with a rather eerie start, the film begins with a funeral scene in which viewers learn that there were many secrets that the recently passed Graham grandmother did not tell the rest of her family about. These secrets soon set the tone for the rest of the film. The family’s house, set in a forest of isolation, adds tension to the already horrifying plot. There is no escape; they are completely alone.

Their performance of the ambitious play 12 Angry Jurors opens this Friday. The play, originally a movie titled 12 Angry Men, covers what goes on in the jury room as twelve individuals decide the fate of a man who is accused of murdering his father. Each character is unique due to their background and opinions, their battle to come to a civilized and unanimous decision driving the plot.

The Best Summer Food Recipes

Ingredients:
  • 8 ounces uncooked dried
            Penne pasta
  • 3 tablespoons land o’ lake butter
  • 1 medium cup onion, cut into 1 inch piece
  • Two teaspoons finely chopped fresh garden                                                                       
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon coarse ground pepper
  • Two medium (4 cups) zucchini, cut into ½ slices

     This year’s spirit week was a huge success, with many students participating in the themed days in preparation for the Homecoming dance. The themes this year were: Meme Monday, Terp Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Throwback Thursday, and Class Color Friday. Starting Monday, September 24th, students came out in their most spirited attire.  Each class could earn points through the activities sponsored by the SGA. During all lunch shifts, students participating in a spirit day were given a ticket to enter into a gift card raffle. All tickets for each class were tallied at the end of the day. The more tickets a class had, the more points they gained. Additionally, the Homecoming floats for each class were judged and awarded point values to contribute to each class’ total amount. According to senior class President Marc Gildersleeve, the class of 2019 took first place.

Homecoming Dance

Students of Howard High School joined together to attend this year’s homecoming dance on September 29. The dance started at 7, but students arrived early to secure their spot in the long line that covered the front of the school. This year, the entrance procedure was switched up. Instead of students entering through the doors that lead to the main lobby, they entered through the doors in front of the gym. Tickets were accepted in front of the auditorium in lines separated by ticket numbers. Students were then given a wristband to wear throughout the night. The coat check was also moved this year. In previous years, students could drop off their shoes, wallets, and other items in the media center. This year, students could drop off their belongings in the auditorium.

Homecoming Parade

     This year’s Homecoming Parade was a tremendous success. There were many families and children standing outside their homes and at the intersections waiting for the parade to pass them. Many of the people on the floats were throwing beaded necklaces and candy to the spectators the parade. Some of the floats included the Kangaroo Kids, the Girl Scouts, Phelps Luck Elementary PTA, Ice Hockey, Field Hockey, and class floats from Howard. David Diep, who is part of the Class of 2019 SGA, who worked on the class of 2019 float and said “It was a very fun experience, I would recommend it to others.” It’s safe to say this year’s homecoming parade was a success.
