Things to do Over Spring Break
Ali Rizvi '20 Staff Writer
Spring break is an odd time for many high schoolers. It is a nice break, but not long enough to go on an ideal vacation, although it is long enough to get bored sitting at home. Luckily, there are numerous local activities in the spring to alleviate that boredom.
The scenic Patapsco State Park is a great place to get away from everything for a while. Spring often symbolizes renewal of nature and self, making a great opportunity to hike and meditate in the park. Come back to school renewed. Patapsco also has campgrounds for those willing to sleep in a tent.
Alternatively, there are trails in the Savage Mill area where one can find peace and quiet next to a small lake.
For those looking to get more surrounded by people instead of less so, there are a number of concerts over spring break. Singer-songwriters Trevor Hall and Brett Dennen play at The Fillmore in Silver Spring on April 9, and rappers NBA Youngboy and Quando Rondo perform at The Anthem in Washington D.C. the following day. Further away, singer Snoh Aalegra is in Philadelphia for her “Ugh, A Tour Again” tour.
Those enticed by such long travels would enjoy going on a small road trip, an opportunity for sightseeing and spending time with friends and/or family. There are many great places to go without leaving Maryland, such as the Eastern shore (including Ocean City and Assateague Island), Brookside Garden and Great Falls Park.
Spring break may be short but if you spend your time wisely, you will come back to school refreshed and ready to finish out the school year.
