Not going anywhere this summer? Pretty much broke? Desperate for money? If this sounds like you, go get a summer job!
If you're looking for a job outdoors, Columbia Association is always looking for more lifeguards (must be 15 years of age). If you’re not looking forward to sitting in the scorching hot sun, there are different jobs within CA to apply for, such as an indoor lifeguard and sports attendants. For those who are looking for a slower or more laid back job, frozen yogurt places are perfect. TCBY says, ''If you’re friendly, energetic, flexible, social, then we suggest you work here!” Down the road from Howard High there’s a Tutti Frutti that’s hiring, too! With Tutti Frutti all you have to do is fill up the yogurt machines and run the register. Click here to apply or go to the company's website!

Tutoring will be a good job to start with, since it’s one on one unless you are tutoring a group. Tutoring will help you gain teaching experience. Through teaching, you can learn the best way to interact with other people, make lessons and provide feedback. According to the website PayScale.com, the “working hours of a tutor also vary greatly,” and sessions usually last for at least an hour. You can try out Kumon, an individualized learning method that allows each student to study at the “just-right” level, regardless of age and school grade. Kumon is a great place to start tutoring.
Another recommendation for summer jobs for those who want to work their own hours is babysitting. When babysitting, you are responsible for meals, hygiene, discipline and educational activities. Junior Delaney Nguyen used to work as a babysitter. She said, “For me, I get paid $11 per hour of working. Babysitting can be an easy job if you’re babysitting a sleeping younger one or one who is watching a movie. It’s a simple task, but it’s not as easy if you’re hired to interact with the kids for a set time, and most days will be somewhere in the middle, not too easy and not too challenging.” An example of something a babysitter might need to do to entertain a child. This image is in reference to an article writing about the rate of people who work as a babysitter.
