Prom is quickly approaching! Howard High School’s prom will be held at Martin’s West in Baltimore from 8:00-11:00 pm on Friday, May 13. Tickets are $75 and will be on sale online for juniors and seniors from April 1st through April 22nd. There will also be tickets available to buy at lunch from April 19-22. That’s not all, though! Howard High PTSA is sponsoring an after prom event from 11:30 pm-2:30 am. After prom will be held at Main Event, and there will be arcade games, bowling, laser tag and a raffle where you can win fun prizes and gift baskets! After prom tickets are $30 and are available anywhere you can buy your prom tickets.
Prom is typically only for juniors and seniors, but any prom-goers are allowed to bring guests (as long as they fill out the guest form). Guests can be underclassmen, from other schools, or people who have graduated (as long as they are younger than 21).
If you’re planning to go to prom, you may be going with a group of friends, or you may be going with a date. If you’re planning to ask someone special to go to prom, you may be thinking about doing a promposal. Promposals are a fun and cute way of asking someone to be your prom date. Most people make a sign with a pun on it, but there are many ways to make your promposal interesting. The biggest thing is to get to know the person you are planning on asking out. Each person is going to like something different, and it’s important to know their likes and dislikes before doing anything, especially if it’s a more elaborate promposal.
Once you have the people you are going with (whether that be a date or a group of friends), you need to find an outfit! What would make a prom outfit perfect? First, one must consider their overall height and stature in order to find a dress or suit that would compliment their features. After that’s finished, focus on the style. It is a formal event so formal attire is necessary. The theme of this year's prom is Starry Night, so any deeper tones, such as navy and plum, would fit this theme. A recent trend that could fit this theme as well is wearing shimmery, silver or gold dresses. The color of the dress also impacts whether silver or gold jewelry is best. You can wear a nice bracelet, something that is simple or anything that just matches with your whole theme. For shoes, since it is a night full of dancing, wear something comfortable and pretty. For example, shorter heels (nothing over 4-5 inches), or flats may be comfier. Keep in mind if the color/design goes well with the dress.
For suits, it is important to match with your date. Black is easy to match, an option that could be used if you are struggling to pick something out. An easy way to match is pairing the tie or bow with the color of the partner's dress. Accessorize as you wish, whether that means wearing a simple chain or statement shoes. If you aren’t matching with anyone, feel free to take more liberty with your style. There is the option of wearing a patterned suit if that suits your desire. For shoes, wear dress shoes or anything of the sort, but make sure you are comfortable for a night of dancing! In other words, what matters is that you feel good in what you wear! As long as you’re happy with what you have, you will look amazing anyway. Have fun and stay safe at this year’s prom!
