Best Actor: Due to his excellent performance in the Tick, Tick … Boom! and his returning popularity with his appearance in Spider-man: No Way Home this past year, Andrew Garfield could very well win “Best Actor” for this year. He brilliantly portrayed emotions like frustration and other feelings of annoyance through his singing in the movie, which is deserving of the award title.
Best Supporting Actor: Either Kodi Smit-McPhee or Jesse Plemons may win for their parts in The Power of the Dog. It’s possible that it may be either of them because the movie itself received a lot of recognition and both actors were nominated for one reason: their outstanding performance. This was a surprise nomination for Plemons. Best Actress: Based on Variety’s article, “Oscars Predictions: Best Actress — Kristen Stewart’s Win Could Rest on Critics Choice Award” by Clayton Davis, Spencer may win because the actress received a lot of praise for being a first-time nominee. Davis noted that: “with no women nominated from a film in the best picture lineup, which hasn’t occurred since Reese Witherspoon walked away with the prize for Walk the Line (2005), it’s difficult to read the tea leaves of support in the Academy. She will most likely receive a lot of attention from many critics for winning a nominee after being in the acting game for so long.” Stewart has now caught many critics’ attention which could influence the votes. People may look more into her and her performance in the movie. She could receive more votes due to her achieving something that a woman has not in a while. Best Supporting Actress: According to Variety, “Oscars Predictions: Best Supporting Actress — Kirsten Dunst Finally Has a Shot at Gold After Decades of Snubs”, Clayton Davis explains that Kirsten Dunst’s The Power of the Dog is believed to finally have the chance to win the “Best Supporting Actress” nominee of 2022. Dunst was nominated for this nomination due to her excellent performance in playing the emotional role of a widower and paranoid alcoholic. Davis wrote: “The Academy’s oversight of Kirsten Dunst’s brilliant performances in Interview With the Vampire (1994), The Virgin Suicides (1999), Melancholia (2011), and The Beguiled (2017) has been almost too much to bear.” It hasn’t been her first time brilliantly playing a character in a movie but she finally is receiving recognition for her skills and performance. Animated Feature: Encanto has a chance to win for the Animated Features list since it is very appealing to all audiences, ranging from preschoolers to grown adults due to its relatability. Encanto talks about generational trauma and the expectations that we try to reach in order to keep our parents and elders proud. The lesson of this story is something that almost everyone experiences and resonates with which creates this connection with the audience through the characters in the movie. Best Original Score: Dune will most likely win “Best Original Score” since it is more cinematic, along with dramatic effects. Although Encanto is very well scored too, Dune will likely win due to its theme and plot. The popularity of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya from younger audiences brought more recognition to the movie, along with the readers of the Dune series. Best Makeup And Hairstyling According to the article, “Oscars 2022: Best Makeup and Hairstyling Predictions” by Bill Dezowitz, the movie, Coming 2 America “perfectly complemented the Afro-punk vibe introduced by Oscar winning-costume designer Ruth Carter in updating Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and Semmi (Arsenio Hall) and the other characters.” The winner for “Best Makeup” will likely be Coming 2 America because the impressive makeup effects team was able to make Akeem and Semmi look like realistic senior citizens. The set had wardrobes from traditional African wear to the Afro-punk vibe/trends today. Along with the outfits, their hairstyles were ranging from traditional to creative as well. |
