Howard County Food Bank Needs
Chris Mann '22 Staff Writer
The Howard County Food Bank is a food distribution center for people that may not be able to afford their own food, so they rely on donations from community members. The impacts of COVID-19 have been widespread, and many people have lost their job. These citizens are having a hard time accessing food for themselves and their families. The foods that the students and staff here at Howard High school provide are canned fruit, peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna/chicken, cereal, pasta and pasta sauce. The food bank is open for receiving donations Tuesday through Thursday from 1:00pm-4:00pm, and all donations are greatly appreciated. According to Ms. Rachel Sanborn, the community outreach coordinator, the amount of people in need of their services has grown since Covid-19 has started. She stated that “the Howard County Food Bank has seen a large increase in the number of people we serve. In the first three months of the pandemic, we have had a 300% increase in the number of people we served. In total, we have served over 52,000 individuals last year. We expect to continue to serve more people than prior to the pandemic due to the current economic challenges and other challenges people are facing.” That is a huge amount of people that have been affected, and there are so many more people that face the impacts of COVID throughout the world. Another way to donate is to visit https://cac-hc.org/ to make a monetary donation, which is also greatly appreciated.
