Everything You Need to Know About the Ravens

The Ravens are currently tied for sixth in the NFL this season. They are expected to be “a force to be reckoned with” this season. The team is hoping to make it far into the playoffs with the help of their beloved coach, John Harbaugh.
The Baltimore Ravens wouldn’t be where they are right now if it weren’t for John Harbaugh. Coach Harbaugh is a very well known name in the NFL. He won NFL “Coach of the Year” in 2019. Harbough has led the team to qualify for the playoffs nine out of the thirteen seasons he has been head coach, which only three other teams have been able to achieve. Since Harbough began to lead the team in 2008, the Ravens have racked up a total of 140 victories, the fifth most in the league. Harbaugh also owns the title of the most on-the-road playoff wins, with a total of eight victories. John Harbaugh’s motto is “The Team,” which can be found on posters all throughout Raven’s home field, M&T Bank Stadium. He is quoted on the Ravens website stating “It's about us. It's about the team. It's about the players, the coaches, Steve, Ozzie, Eric and the scouts. It's about Dick and the support staff. It's about all of us pulling together to win – to be the best." Harbaugh’s goal for the Ravens is to win, in an interview he stated "We don't want to just win a championship. We want to be a championship team, we want to become something. We seek the highest levels." |

The Ravens have suffered multiple injuries already this season, tied with the Denver Broncos for the most in the NFL. Wide receiver Rashod Bateman was widely anticipated for his debut in the game against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, Bateman had to be on the sideline the first five weeks of the NFL season after suffering a soft-tissue injury, which he got surgery for. Bateman blew fans away with his incredible chain moving. The rookie caught four passes for 29 yards, all of them being first downs. One of the biggest injuries to the team has been Latavius Murray, a running back, who is currently out for a sprained left ankle. While Murray hasn’t been the best runner on the team, he managed to catch the ball in the endzone in two out of the last three weeks he played. Latavius Murray is expected to return for Week 9 since the team’s “BYE Week,” (the week where they do not play), is Week 8. The amount of injuries to the team has impacted their efficiency and ability to compete. When asked for his comments on the injuries, Coach Harbaugh stated, “My thoughts are I’m not going to make any comments on injuries for rest of the season.”
If you live around Maryland, you have most likely heard of Lamar Jackson at some point in your life. Only four years ago, the Ravens chose Jackson as their 32nd pick in the NFL draft. Since then he has made some impressive accomplishments. Even before he was chosen to be a Raven, he was a star. He was the youngest player to ever win a Heisman Award, an award to honor for the most driven and outstanding college football player. He went on to play an incredible performance his first season in the NFL, including a 68 yard pass caught by tight end Mark Andrews. That season was when Andrews and Jackson began to create the bond that makes the Ravens such a difficult team to beat. Lamar received an overwhelming amount of support from his fans, his biggest ones being from his hometown in Pompano Beach, FL. The mayor of his hometown declared the first official “Lamar Jackson Day” every first Saturday of July. Currently, in his fourth season, Jackson has become one of the best quarterbacks of all time, rated as the fastest quarterback in the NFL. Lamar holds the title of 11th most rushing yards in quarterback’s history with 3,185 yards.
With the combination of the coaching from John Harbaugh and the chemistry between Mark Andrews and Lamar Jackson, the Ravens are a threat to the competition this season. They are anxiously awaiting the playoffs to show the rest of the NFL what they can do.
