The Addams Family Musical Preview

From November 11th to the 13th, Howard High is having its first theater production in almost 2 years! Last month, Howard collaborated with Long Reach High school for their first show. Mrs. Greffen, the theater teacher, shares her excitement and information about Howard’s fall musical, The Addams Family: A New Comedy!
“This is exciting, this is the first Howard High theater production of the year. It was a really tough decision trying to decide what was going to be our first show back from a whole year and a half of not being able to do a live show,” Mrs. Greffen explained. “One of my number one priorities was to pick a show where I could have a huge cast. I didn’t want anyone missing out, so with this production, I wouldn’t need to cut people like would happen if it was a smaller cast.” This musical features lots of puns, dark comedy, and quirky characters. The Addams family is the opposite of a “normal” family. Things that most people find cute, they are disgusted by, and things most people are disgusted by, they are interested in. The show opens with the whole extended Addams family waking up from the dead with a line dance in the graveyard. The entire family sticks around for the whole show to watch Wednesday Addams fall in love with Lucas, the preppiest, perkiest boy ever. Opposites attract! They decide they’re soulmates and want to get married, so they really want their families to get along. The whole show is set during this one chaotic night when the two families meet. Wednesday invites Lucas and his parents over and the two families clash right away. They do not get along at all, which causes chaos and drama. Mrs. Greffen emphasizes, “These are very quirky roles and can be played with a lot of humor, so I like that. And just the message about two families that are polar opposites, but that learn to appreciate and kind of have an open mind about someone very different from them. So that’s why we picked Addams, family, that’s the gist, that’s my vision for it!”
The Addam’s Family cast has 53 actors and 24 in the tech crew, so a LOT of Howard students have been dedicated to bringing this show to life. This show is appropriate for all ages and includes Halloween aspects too, but everyone can watch it! Prepare to laugh out loud because you’ll love every second of this performance. Tickets go on sale on November 1st on hcpss.booktix.com, so make sure to get yours and come out to support your fellow students!
