Howard’s theater department has announced their spring musical: Matilda. Based on the classic Roald Dahl novel, the show centers around a gifted young girl in a harsh, neglecting family who uses her powers of telekinesis to protect her loved ones.
Under the direction of Mrs. Greffen, the cast has been preparing for months. Sarah Chaney, Gavin Willard, Avery Fahey, Ellen Gabriel and Sebastian Balash have lead roles, and Michael Duffy will make his Howard Theater debut as evil headmistress Agatha Trunchbull. The cast is augmented by middle school students, who will play little kids.
The dances and musical numbers are catchy and well executed, with numerous talented students showing off their voices and footwork. The audience will have as much fun as the cast with all of the exciting performances.
The large cast is evidently passionate about the show. Rachel Kohen, a Senior in the big kid ensemble, stated “There is so much energy in the rehearsal” and “the collaboration between the high schoolers and middle schoolers is going to be amazing!”
Matilda is an experience that you do not want to miss, so mark it on your calendars now. There will be four performances: Thursday February 27 at 7:00pm, Saturday February 29 at 2:00pm, Saturday February 29 at 7:00pm, or Sunday March 1 at 2:00pm.
