As spring approaches at Howard High School, seniors begin to get excited for graduation. The graduation ceremony is a very memorable moment for the seniors. The ceremony will be held June 1st at Merriweather Post Pavilion and will begin at 7pm. The graduation is a semi-formal event. Since it is a stepping stone into their futures, it is important to dress for success.
Senior Shannon Campbell stated, “I am very excited, but also I'm going to miss high school. But for the most part, I'm definitely excited because it's been a long four years.” It is important to have a nice outfit to make the ceremony even more memorable. Everyone graduating has to wear the gown, however, what you wear underneath adds a unique touch. The cap and gown for Howard graduates are deep blue, which is something to keep in mind when picking an outfit. Senior Alayna Drnach shares her ideas of what she is going to wear to graduation under her cap and gown, saying, “I am probably going to wear a white dress with heels or sandals.” Campbell agreed and said, “I will also wear a white dress, probably with wedges.” A white dress is a great option for a graduation outfit because it is simple and matches everything. It looks pretty underneath the gown and makes for great pictures after the ceremony. Also, white dresses have become traditional graduation attire for some over the years. People like to view wearing a white dress as a new beginning. As for shoes, heels are very elegant and a good choice for this type of event, but some people find them uncomfortable and hard to walk in. If you don't like heels, the better option is wedges or sandals. When wearing heels, it can be easier to trip up the steps or on the stage. Wedges still have the heel effect but are easier to walk in; sandals have flat bottoms and are also easier for some people to walk in.
Another great outfit idea is a nice button-up shirt with some dress shoes, such as Sperry’s. Many wear short sleeve button-up shirts underneath their cap and gown. Since graduation is June 1st, the weather may be hot and humid. Short sleeves allow for more air during the hot ceremony. As for pants, there are many ways you could go. Dark dress pants are a good choice if you want to go for a more elegant look. On the other hand, if you are going for a more casual look, khakis are the way to go. They are comfortable, but still look nice enough to wear to a graduation; they also fit the theme of spring. When in doubt, a nice white top and dress pants are the way to go for a graduation outfit.
Creating a graduation outfit can be very hard, but worth it. The ceremony will be gorgeous and having an outfit to go along with it will only make things better.
