Artist of the Year

2021 has just started and we have so many artists that have been releasing new music. Taylor Swift came out with two chart-topping sister albums, titled Folklore and Evermore respectively. Artists like The Weeknd performing at the super bowl halftime show. This outpouring of content is partly due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic: many artists had to put a hold on the release of their albums last year. . Two polls prompting students to choose between artists were conducted on the Howard Lions Tale instagram page (be sure to follow @hohslionstale!) There was a poll between Ariana Grande and The Weekend and another one done between Taylor swift and Drake. Ariana Grande had a total of 21 votes. The Weekend came up close behind Grande with a total of 19 votes. The results of the Taylor Swift and Drake poll showed Taylor Swift at a total of 30 votes and Drake with only 13 votes. The votes show that Taylor Swift is at the top for Artist of the year, which is believable due to her major comeback this year, spearheaded by the release of multiple albums. Sydney Williams, a sophomore at Howard High School, believes that SZA was artist of the year. “SZA had just released a song called “Good Days” and it is a very good song and is a very popular song at the moment,” stated Sydney. She also said that SZA ``makes music that is very relatable and she puts a lot of emotions and feelings into her songs and writing.” While everyone may have their different opinions on who they feel the artist of the year should be, Taylor Swift seems to come up at the top.
